I got my letter from the NVC last Thursday stating that the petition would be forwarded to Costa Rica within 1 week. Can anyone tell me what to expect next and/or how their experience was in Costa Rica? Can't believe it's finally on it's way there!

Rob&Pame,

Congrats. You guys are close to the end (of this process at least). Are you the fiancee or the USC? If you are the USC, so my post is addressed for you.

Contrary to most processes in Costa Rica, the K1 process is pretty efficient.

When the embassy in San Jose receives the paperwork from NVC (usually under a week), they will call your fiancee within a couple of days to schedule a time for her to come pick up the packet of forms (medical, vaccinations, etc) from the embassy. (If they don't have a good working number for her, it may cause a problem. You may want to contact themabout a week after NVC sent the package to CR.) They don't mail out the packet because the Postal "system" (if you want to call it that) is a complete mess there. In the packet, there will be a list of doctors, clinics, and labs to go to for the medicals parts of the requirement. I don't remember exactly what is required (it has been over 3 years since we went through it), but I seem to recall that she will need to pick up her police clearance and single certificate to bring to the interview. I honestly don't remember the details. You can search my posts from March/April 2008, I wrote a lot about it. All this info will be in the packet. You can even email the embassy non-immigrant visa department and they can email you all the instructions before your fiancee gets them so she can start making appointments and getting the documents together. That's what I did. By the time she picked up the packet, she had most of the documents in hand or ordered.

Then once you have it all in hand, make the appointment for the interview. (My wife (then fiancee) is not great with details, so I made the appointment and filled out all the forms).

One thing that I would STRONGLY recommend is to go to CR to accompany your fiancee for the interview. I was told that they want to see how the couple is together. It's definitely not a requirement (as I know at least 3 couple who went solo and got approved), but I was told it helps.

BTW-You can read the embassy/interview reviews here: http://www.visajourney.com/reviews/index.php?cnty=Costa+Rica&cty=&dfilter=5

Good luck.

Thanks so much! I'm the petitioner. I can't believe we are so close! I just got back from CR last night. We spend 12 days together. I'm planning on going back for the interview. We'll definitely try to email. God bless!
