I know that there are numerous threads here about Administrative Processing and I've read the NVC wiki. I called NVC today for to check on the status of our approved I-129F and the woman said it was still in "administrative processing" but she also said that the process goes really quickly and I should call back next week. I'm getting a little confused because the VJ wiki says the average AP time is 50 days. I have a Chinese woman that just hit the roof when I gave her my daily status report and I'm hoping someone can give me some current scoop. The only issue that I see with our petition is that I'm 15 years senior. I know AP is said to be a random selection for additional background screening. Should I be preparing for an additional 7 weeks of processing?

Maybe, Maybe Not.

NVC does Name Checks using various Databases.

If nothing kicks out you will sail thru but if something does kick out it will need additional time.

The VJ wiki's are general time lines. Timelines can change frequently throughout the year based on many variables. Instead, you can read it as... up to 50 days. Generally, it's shorter. But, there are many variables... including case load. Just like Sam and Fen said: barring any issues, you will get through fine. If the operator said it won't take too long, then hopefully it will be completed long before 50 days is up.

I encourage you with regular follow-up calls to NVC. Speak with a live operator or supervisor. Although, sometimes, even their information can be vague. It is the most up-to-date info you can get. Additionally, it helps you catch any mistakes by NVC and can be corrected as soon as possible, which can save you weeks of additional delay.

China is not bogged down with paperwork as we are here in the US. Everything here is documents, contracts, receipts and so on. So, it's a little hard for the Chinese spouse to fully understand that so many things in the US are a long daunting process even for basic things. Reassure her, in a positive/supportive way, to be patient and to understand that this is how things are in the US, but the good thing is, at least your case is in the process. Although the waiting is hard and frustrating, but, it's in the works. Rather than anticipating some big change on a weekly basis, try to approach it without expectation on time frames. It's hard, but it does help reduce some of the stress. Then when things do actually move to the next step, the news is more of a pleasant experience.

Best wishes to you. It's a difficult process... but you can and will make it. Love and faith does trully conquer all things.

K-1 visa? Namechecks?

ok

namechecks can slow down anywhere along the line.

For China-bound petitions/visa applications

usually a slow down will occur if she's from a particular city in a particular province (Fuzhou/Fujian)

see http://www.usaimmigrationattorney.com/SecurityNameChecksAndAdministrativeReview.html for a very detailed explanation

and

when you call in again, inquire if the AP is due to a namecheck on HER or on YOU.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
