"Extensive Background Checks" at USCIS

In response to my recent service request to CSC about my pending I-129F (after dutifully waiting for 5 months and a week), I received an e-mail notice that my petition is undergoing "extensive background checks" and that I should receive a Notice of Action within six months. Obviously not what I was hoping to hear since others either get their approval or are notified that their case is with an adjudicator and that they will get a response within 45 days!

Anyway, hoping to hear from anyone else who got the same "extensive background checks" as to what the actual timeline is - about that? less? a lot less? more?? depends completely on and varies significantly by the case?

2009/06/19 - 1st NOA 1 (I-129F)

2009/10/07 - NOA 2

2010/01/11 - interview; result - approved

2010/01/18 - received passport with visa in the mail

2010/02/05 - embassy calls and asked to return visa for a "correction"

2010/02/09 - fiance returns passport with visa to embassy

2010/03/09 - embassy tells us we are in "administrative review"

2010/09/07 - fiance receives passport back with canceled visa and letter; our petition has been returned to USCIS

2010/11/08 - 2nd NOA 1 (I-129F ROUND 2)

2011/04/19 - service request response - 6 months additional extensive background checks

2011/08/22 - 2nd NOA 2

2011/10/04 - interview

2011/10/20 - visa received

2011/11/04 - POE

2011/11/25 - legal marriage

2012/07/21 - wedding with family and friends!!

wow this is messed up, i wonder if they just wanted to say that cause people at USCIS are very rude, and in some cases they will say anything to get u off.. but i would suggest to call them again to verify and make sure this is right.

Hummm..."extensive background checks", maybe they are really doing that, but the additional 6 months could just be a way to give them a wide window to work with without giving you any promises of when it will be one. It will most likely never take that long. Anyway, once it gets to be 6 months and 1 day (from you're original NOA1, which would seem to be coming up soon in a couple weeks)contact you're senator or local congressmen, tell them you're petition is outside the posted processing times and you would like help and have them request you're case to be expedited. It worked for me. Good luck!
