OPT Job Details?

Hello VisaJourney!

I was here a few months ago with passport issues and was quite thankful for the help. Everything's been resolved and my OPT approval is pending.

The issue I'm having, however, is that I understand I have to find a job which "relates to my major."

I'm graduating with an Associate of Science degree, after studying in Liberal Arts for a few years. This encompassess a large area of topics and specialties. I'm unsure of what would job qualify specifically under that. My DSO (designated school officer) and advisor said that I simply have to be able to defend why my job fits under a Liberal Arts education.

Also, are there any restrictions for volunteering anywhere prior to an EAD being issued?

Any thoughts on this? Has anyone gone through it?

I appreciate your imput!

Volunteer might depend on where you are volunteering.

If you are volunteering for a firm then that is not considered volunteering, but if you are doing for a NGO or a public institution then you should not have problem as volunteering.

As your DSO said as long as the position is related to what you went to school for you should not have a prob with OPT.
