hello,

an otherwise perfect day as i put together my cambodian fiance packet 3 docs ....finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel.

so iam making copies of her passport when i notice the spelling on her first name is different than the spelling on all the docs that have gotten us to this point.

how did it happen? well to start she use a nickname, and she barely knows the correct spelling of her given legal name ( Rany, not Rani )

i recall when i had her cambodian birth certificate translated to english, i caught the mistake, but somehow the incorrect birth certificate managed to sneak back into flow of documents and all was processed as mispelled.

so here i am, so close. i am currently on hold with the visa center hoping to get some answer on how to go about this. my next step being trying to contact the consulate in bangkok who is handling this case.

anyone out there been in a similar situation? any advise or ideas?

gosh, i havent been this close to crying since last super bowl.

with heavy heart, thank you, eric

I am confused as to where you are processing, see below. It appears K-1 applications are processed in country, and Immigrant Visas are processed in Bangkok.

This is a first name correct? Not the family name?

I would surmise that if it is first name, it will not be a big issue and can be corrected.

If this is the last name (family name), this could be a much bigger issue.

Call the Embassy and see what you can find out. Also, what did NVC say about it?

Immigrant Visas (IV)

Effective February 1, 2002, all immigrant visa processing has been transferred to the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand. For further information, please fax the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy Bangkok at (662) 254-1171, or email visasbkk@state.gov.

Non-Immigrant Visas

Applying for a Nonimmigrant Visa (NIV)

Visa Appointment Wait Time:

The average appointment wait time for visitor (B1/B2), student (F,M), exchange visitor (J), and all other non-immigration visas is: here travel.state.gov/visa/temp/wait/tempvisitors_wait.php) The average visa processing time is one day.

All applicants should be aware that the times given above are averages, and that the processing time of a specific case can vary due to individual circumstances and other special requirements.

How to apply:

If you do not qualify for the Drop Box procedure, you are required to make an

appointment for interview by calling the U.S. Embassy Telephone Appointment Center at (855-23) 728-000 on Monday through Friday from 8:30 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. and 2:00 P.M. - 4:30 P.M.

As of December 20, 2004, visa applicants have to arrive for interview between 8:00 A.M. and 9:30 A.M. They should submit their passport and application, and pay the non-refundable application fee of 100 USD, prior to their interview. Supporting documents should be brought to the interview by the applicant. Do not send supporting documents via mail, fax, or email.

On the day of the interview, we request that family members, friends, or other persons not accompany the visa applicant to the U.S. Embassy. Applicants are generally interviewed in the order that they arrive, but should plan to be at the Embassy for several hours.

Cambodian citizens do not need to pay any additional fees to the Embassy if a visa is issued. (Some third country nationals may be required to pay an additional fee if the visa is issued, based on bilateral reciprocity agreements between the U.S. government and their home country.)

Visas are generally available for pick at 4:00 P.M. on the following day that the Consular Unit is open to the public. However, the Consular Unit encourages visa applicants not to purchase plane tickets until after they have received the visa back from the Embassy.

If it's her first name, there shouldn't be much problem. When I applied for my parent's immigrant visa, my mom has been using the name Juliet as far back as she can remember and her passport shows it too. As a matter of fact all her IDs show it. Her birth certificate shows Julieta (with the extra A at end) Had no problems. Good Luck
