Just Married...NOW WHAT!?

I am Canadian. My husband is American. I entered the U.S. on a visitor status. During my visit, my husband and I were married (3 months after I originally entered the country as advised by a lawyer). I now want to stay here permanently and legally. What is our next move? Thank you so much for any help.

I'm glad this got moved and I found this board. So many of my questions have been answered! I have a few more, though:

1) I'm living in the U.S. but I work online and thus have not had to quit my job. The money I earn has been going to a Canadian bank account. Will this pose any problems? Am I allowed to show that I can support myself, even when in the U.S.? Is anything about this illegal?

2) Can I fly within the U.S. with an expired Canadian passport? Are you able to fly by only showing a driver's lisence if you're Canadian? I also have a birth certificate...

No, you can't fly in the US with an expired Canadian passport but you can renew your Canadian passport from within the USA. Foreign driver license is not sufficient ID for US domestic flights.

You can fly with the Canadian drivers license on domestic flights.

Passengers who do not or cannot present an acceptable ID will have to provide information to the Transportation Security Officer performing Travel Document Checking duties in order to verify their identity. Passengers who are cleared through this process may be subject to additional screening. Passengers whose identity cannot be verified by TSA may not be allowed to enter the screening checkpoint or onto an airplane.

Acceptable IDs include:

U.S. passport

U.S. passport card

DHS "Trusted Traveler" cards (NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST)

U.S. Military ID (active duty or retired military and their dependents, and DOD civilians)

Permanent Resident Card

Border Crossing Card

DHS-designated enhanced driver's license

Drivers Licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent)

A Native American Tribal Photo ID

An airline or airport-issued ID (if issued under a TSA-approved security plan)

A foreign government-issued passport

Canadian provincial driver's license or Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) card

Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
