Anyone in WA?

Just wanted to see if anyone moved from the UK to WA. Hubby and I are currently in TX and want to get back to the UK but cannot for a bit. Unfortunately TX is just going to work until we can get back. So, just wanted to see what other's experiences are with the state. They seem to have alot of stores with british items and the weather we are certain is much better than the horrid heat down here.

Any thoughts, insights would be great.

You are talking about Washington right? (NW corner of the US? Your post seems a bit confusing to me...currently in TX, want to get back to UK but TX will have to suffice for now...where does WA fit into all this...? Doesn't matter I suppose.)

I haven't moved from the UK to WA but I have lived in WA for most of my life. I was in the military for 9+ years and so I was away from 'home' for most of that time. I was stationed in Texas and when I finally got out, and moved back to WA, it was such a relief. I missed the wonderful little things about the NW. The trees, the mountains, the rain, etc. My wife is Canadian and so I live pretty close to the Canada/US border on the west side of the Cascade mountain range. If you are thinking about heading to the east side of the mountains, you might as well stay in Texas ;) Just kidding, it's not quite that bad, but its close.

Is WA a must or are you just looking for a different state to move to? Have you thought about the NE as the weather isn't far off England's and also you could be close to NYC which has everything. Here in PA, we have a few British shops along with some British foods in the normal grocery stores. My husband got settled in here in PA pretty well, once he got a job and his license things started to fall into place and things got better.

In defense of Texas---

We live in a forest of towering trees (there's lots of different terrain in a place so big)

We find British things at Kroger, HEB, World Market, and small British shops

There's even bangers and bacon available at Fiesta

It's pretty cheap to live here (Have you checked online cost of living calculators when deciding on a new state?)

But I understand if you want to move. I just didn't wantt people to think Texas is a vast wasteland. My British husband loves it here. Everybody is different. I'd feel the same way if I had to live in a cold climate. I resented this unusually cold winter where I had to actually wear a coat a few days. Isn't it wonderful we have such a variety of places to find our niche? I hope you find yours.

Thank you for the responses.

I apologozie for my confusing post. I forgot to grammar check it before hitting send. Yes we currently live in TX but neither of us like it. It's too hot for one thing. Neither of us like the heat but I came here a few years before I met hubby. One of the reasons we are considering WA state is because of the weather as well as the fact that there is no state income tax. (I do not want to live in a state with another tax to deal with) On top of that my cousin and best friend from HS are in WA. HEB does have some items but not that many. We would love to go back to the UK now but finances, among other things, prevent us from doing so at the moment. We've looked at other states but would rather stay further away from the east coast in general. Now don't get me wrong, TX can be great for those who don't mind the blistering heat but we aren't one of those :(

Sales tax i can deal with. Tx is over 8% anyway :) I think it will definately be better for us until we can move back to the UK.

Thanks again all.
