Called the NVC today to figure out about the AOS (not adjustment of status) and asked the man about translations for the birth certificate, police certificate and if the copy of our translated marriage certificate was suitable to send in. He actually told me that We didn't need to have the birth certificate or the police certificate translated. His reasoning was that it is all going to the embassy in Ankara and they speak Turkish there. It shocked me but we are having it translated anyway.

1. Is it ok if we send in the already translated copy of the marriage certificate (the one we send in with the 130) since he will be bringing the original to his interview?

I'm super afraid originals will be lost in the mail.

2. Who fills out the DS 230?

The man told me that he is the one filling it out, but I have seen more USCs filling out the 230s. He will go back to work again soon (lives on a ship) so we are trying to hurry because either I have to send him information or he has to send me information.

As long as you send the original, you may choose to add the translation if you prefer.

But as operator has told you since the interview will be in Turkey, no need

for translation.

He has to sign part 1 of DS-230, you can fill the rest for him but he has to get the

old necessary documents. But beneficiary(he) fills DS-230 and you fill I-864.

So can we send in the copy of the translation with the original marriage certificate? Thanks a lot!

Ok thank you so much. I'm scanning the translation and sending it to him for his records, and we may go ahead and have him send the 230 and we send the 864. Did you send (Nihal, hey!) the package together or did you separate the 864s in one package and the 230 in another package or just send everything together?

I don't see any conflicting information there. The Consulate in Ankara is not USCIS. You were properly informed by NVC. It doesn't matter who fills out the DS230 but it's the foreigner's visa application so it contains their information and is signed by the foreigner.

I have to read it again I guess. I kept reading that he needs to have his birth certificate, our marriage certificate and his police certificate translated and then NVC said that we do not need to have it translated so it confused me. I'm going to double check one more time and then just tell him to go ahead and not worry about the translations. Thanks!
