Thanks! We did our timeline and a 10 year residency for myself and my fiancee. However, they never ask for those documents. I told my fiancee to bring them with her on the interview date and try to submit them in when she have a chance. When she tried to put those documents through the window, the CO who interviewed her pushed it away and told her they don't it. After almost 15 questions, they asked her if we have pictures before and after engagement party. My fiancee said "yes" and they looked at the pictures and they started to question her more.

So my timeline and our 10 year residency were never submitted.

i had my timeline, 10 yrs residency and my wife's 10 yr residency at the time of her interview. she handed them to the CO but he pushed them back and gave her the blue slip. in the blue slip it requested those documents. so we just had them notarized again and when she turn them in last week, she got pink. so it's hard to tell with the VN consulate. i think it's better to have them though.

I prepared mine like a resume format. Thanks to another VJ member's (Joelemy) idea. Just fyi, on the blue slip it ask for the date,address,who i lived with (if any), their relationship with you, and their bdates. hope this helps.

some red flags can be satisfactorily addressed in the initial filing... There are many people that are familiar with what the HCMC CO's look for and they know how to prepare things to avoid issues down the road... This does not mean that a cse without this preparation will be denied or one with it will be approved, it just means that there are ways to try to be proactive...

Interesting, Scott. How do they know all those things? My question might sound dumb to you but to those unfamiliar with HCMC like me, it's not. This whole journey is new to me, from start to finish. Probably this is the most complicated process of marrying someone. It's a long process created by Uncle Sam and Uncle Ho!!!

Uncle Ho play no role here... just Napolitano et al.. For those that have been on VJ for a while and done alot of reading as well as been there done that... we have seen what the CO's say is the reason for denial.. (look at page 1 VN interview thread pinned) and we see what people have done right and done wrong. so the answer to your question would be experience and research... I have been working on a HCMC FAQ list that I should be posting before too long... Hopefully I can get some input from Jim and others to make it a good resource for those just starting the journey...

As Scott said and it is true but the CO's are bureaucrats and are stuck in their ways and slow to change their actions. What they perceive are red flags are what they are reacting from in their past histories. When they get burned by cheats they tend to introduce practices so as not to get burned again. They also think they understand the cultures they are thrown into. Certain cultures tend to do certain things in certain ways (such as the engagement ceremonies as an example) and in bureaucratic thinking there is no change at all ever. We know here that the city folk and modern times that the ceremonies are done away with a lot and in the countryside it is still practiced always except in rare cases. Scott,Jim and other have been here awhile and seen a lot of different scenarios so we tend to know about but never for sure what is up. All we can do is try to help. I also see that other newer members are starting to come help which is very valuable as their experiences are fresher. I want to thank them and say we need them very much.
