Hi everyone,

When we filed our 1-130 (it's been approved already) the lawyer entered the wrong current address for the beneficiary, we didn't know about this until my husband went to pick up our file since now we are about to file online at the NVC, my husband called the operator and was told to send an e-mail to correct the address, which he did.

My only concern is that this might cause a discrepancy on the I-130 and the DS-260 form, which the operator said that there shouldn't be...

But I just want to hear if anyone around had gone through the same and if we might have problems because of it?

It is an honest mistake if anyone asks you more about you can just say it was the lawyer who messed up (although for the amount you pay them to do a simple task, lawyers shouldn't mess up).

That wasn't the only mistake she made, she didn't even know that we are required to file online and said to wait for the DS230 package to arrive by mail, and after three months I finally found out that we will never get it... so she made us waste 3 months, I told my husband to sue her, but he said that it wasn't worth the trouble

Personally I think you could do a better job. I would ask for a refund and all of your documents back from the lawyer.

My mother in law is an acquaintance of hers, so she gave us a 50% discount when we filed the I-130 it was around 500 dollars though, but my husband is a very polite person and doesn't want to do anything, so it´s good that I don´t even know her because I would at least try to get that refund.

At NVC you could list you or your husband as agent, thank the lawyer for "services rendered" and tell her that it would be more meaningful if you and your husband did it. A chance for both parties to save face and really an opportunity for you and your hubby to grow closer through the process by working as a team. You can correct the address error by sending it as previously stated or you can wait for NVC and do it over the phone. Best of luck!!
