I served in the British army and were based in Germany for a number of years. Do I require a German police certificate for this time or will my military records be good enough?

If I do require a certificate does anyone know how to get one and the length of time it takes.

I have my NOA2 but are still awaiting packet 3 from London although I did call and got my LDN # and booked my medical for next week. I'm hoping to travel in May as we have booked our wedding for June 25th!

Thanks in advance.

On the Embassy website it doesn't say that being in a country for military reasons exempts you from the requirement. Then again, I would assume that someone who was based in, say, Afghanistan for 18 months might not have to obtain a police certificate.

Here is the information about German police certificates: http://travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_4881.html?cid=3567 If you scroll down you will see information on how to obtain one. It says that it takes a minimum of 3-4 weeks. I would go ahead and obtain one, unless someone else comments today and is able to tell you that you definitely don't need it :-)

hi, i m in the same boat. i got one from germany and it is straight forward and takes max 10 days. that is what they say. you need to go on this website,

http://www.london.diplo.de/Vertretung/london/en/07/other__legal__matters/Police__clearance__certificate__Seite.html

print and fill the form. take your passport with you to the german consulate (the is one in london, but many across the uk), you will need a cheque if paying in pounds (amount of 12.50 pounds) ... and also you need your stuff certified at the consulate that is why you are going there. it will also cost you 13 pounds for the consulate to do that. please note that you pay the 13 pounds in cash. there is no appointments needed. must simply be there before 11:30 if i have good memory.
