I just got off the phone with a "DOS Specialist" who really didn't seem like she knew what she was talking about. There were a lot of "I think so?" given by her :(

SO...that being said...I am asking for some advice from the experts at Visa Journey! :)

My husband lives in the Dominican Republic. I am the US Citizen. We received our notice the interview for April 6th, 2011.

Should HE be expecting documents in the mail? The woman on the phone said "no" and that "he could take the email we received to the medical appointment" and that just seems wrong to me.

If anyone could offer advice/experience...we would really appreciate it :)

Thank you!!

I would check the region specific forum for information on the DR stuff. The embassy's all do things differently and you will have more straight information from others going through that area.

It is possible to get an "official" notice of the interview date but it often comes after the interview. The DOS rep was correct in both of her responses.

From what I have read, I believe that he receives the package in DR. After all he is the one that needs to fill out the forms that come in the packet and he is the one that has to get the medical done. I am almost 100% sure he receives the packet. I also believe that if for any reason he has not receive the packet at least 14 days before the interview, you need to call in and schedule a duplicate packet pick up at the embassy for him.

Best of Luck!!!!

There should be no further forms to fill out for the CR-1, just a few more documents to be submitted.

We were also given wrong information when we first called the visa specialist. I'd suggest calling again, maybe? But all the info can be found on the DOS and US Embassy in Santo Domingo web sites.

My understanding, since we are filing for spousal spousal visas, is that they send out a packet to the beneficiary, but the NVC sends the petitioner a copy of the interview letter via email. The only other documents that your husband should be submitting will be his medical stuff, another police report (DR wants a second one submitted at the interview even though you submitted one with the IV paperwork to the NVC), and a copy of the interview letter. Everything else you bring will be for supporting evidence.

Please, please let me kow how it goes...I am still desperately waiting for an interview date from the NVC...I want this whole thing to be OVER and have him HERE.

Sorry to respond to this so late--we just moved, and got internet set up today. Since you are filing for CR-1, presumably you gave NVC your email addresses (I'm guessing you did, since you got the email with the appointment). That email IS your interview packet. Neither of you should receive anything in the physical mail. We got the appointment email, and nothing else. My husband printed out that PDF document, took it (and his passport and pictures) to the Consultorios de Visa, and did his medical--no problems! Good luck!!!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! thank you so much for this valuable info! I had heard so many different things and with the DR having such a reliable mail system  I thought I better find out!

So, after he has his medical done...then he has to drop the medical packet off at the cousilate or something like that, right? I am so paranoid we are going to do something wrong. I guess that's pre-interview jitters
