Traveling through Madrid, Barajas as a Moroccan

Hi All,

My husband who has a Moroccan Passport and a US Temp Green Card wants to travel back to Morocco. We want to book a round-trip ticket from Los Angeles to Madrid, Barajas on American Airlines. In Madrid he would pass through immigration and then go to another terminal to take a regional Easy Jet flight a few hours later. It's a much cheaper way to get to Morocco. On the way home from Morocco, he would have to spend 1 night in Madrid to get an early flight back home on American Airlines.

Does anybody with a Moroccan passport have any experience doing this through Madrid? Do we need to obtain a 1 day transit visa from Spain for both days? I won't be traveling with him so I don't want him to have any issues. This would be the first time he has gone back home since arriving here 1.5 years ago. I've done this many times but I have a US Passport.

Please let me know and thanks much!

Jayme

If he's going to pass through immigration, I'd say yeah, he needs a transit visa. Your best bet would be to give the Spanish Consulate a call and ask them first hand. Here is the numbers for their consulates in the US: http://www.maec.es/SUBWEBS/EMBAJADAS/WASHINGTON/EN/MENUPPAL/CONSULARES/Paginas/Consular%20Services.aspx

Try this: http://www.delta.com/planning_reservations/plan_flight/international_travel_information/visa_passport_information/index.jsp

Many airlines have this info so I am including Delta's. Just put in whatever country of citizenship the person is from, whether they are US resident and what is their destination. You can also put any country you are transiting through. It will give you the info you are looking for as far as visa requirements.

Hope it helps.

Your husband will need a transit visa to travel thru Spain and would have to apply for a tourist visa if he is leaving the airport altogether to spend the night. We tried this last year with my husband and when you add up the time and money it takes to get the visas it's not any cheaper.

Thanks for all your replies! Yes, it seems that if he stays in the same terminal without leaving the airport, he doesn't need a Visa. So, in Madrid, Terminal 4 is American Airlines and Royal Air Maroc is there too. Instead of EasyJet, he can take Royal Air Maroc.

Thanks for the Delta link too!

Wanted to add this; if his flight on royal air maroc is direct from madrid to morocco he DOES NOT need a visa. However if it connects elsewhere in Europe he DOES need a visa. My husband traveling on his GC had a connection in Madrid to Barcelona and then Marrakech - he was NOT allowed onto the Madrid - Barcelona flight without a visa (even though our 2 USC kids were with him). HEADACHE!!!
