Know your rights? I'm sorry, but you do not have a right to visit the US

I'm glad you were victorious but note that the visa wasn't issued, you still have to re-apply and your overstay will come back then as well

Good luck

I know, no right to visit the US, but I was mostly concerned about the 10 year bar, which was not applied in accordance with the law. Due to the type of work I do, I might have to travel back and forth a lot in the future and having that bar would have been a major obsticle. I don't want to go into detail as to why I overstayed my last visit, but, of course, there was a compelling reason, since paying $30 000 per year in international tuition and then dropping out during my last year without obtaining a complete degree (note, I was a valedictorian at school) is not what I originally had in mind. Hopefully, I can explain my situation to the consular officer, present strong ties to my homecountry and good moral character profile and, hopefully, my overstay will be forgiven, as some time has passed too. There is no guarantee and it upsets me to be in this situation, but there is no point in looking back and I gotta work with what I have...

To forgive your overstay or not is upto CO.

Your past overstay will still come-up during the interview as few ppl have mentioned here, the difference is now atleast you have option to apply for the visa earlier it was automatic 10 yr ban.
