I am still waiting for our NOA2, but I am wondering if there is anything I can do to get the police reports done in advance for the packet that will be sent. I read somewhere that the police certificates are not available in Mexico. Is that true? My husband lived in the U.S. for four years. Do I need to get his police report here? I called the police station today, and they told me that he has to request the information himself in writing and have it notarized. I don't know what an equivalent of a notary would be in Mexico. Does anyone know? Do we even need this? Has anyone gone through this process in Mexico? We got our notice date November 22. I am getting very impatient. My husband has been out of the country for almost 11 months now. I want to get the show on the road!

My fiance lives in Mexico. We are still in the process of waiting for our NOA2 and it will be probably be several months till we get it. But we have been proactive in getting as much stuff together as possible for the next step. He just walked into the police station/headquarters for his state (Oaxaca) and requested the police report. They gave it to him that day, I don't know if he needed to pay anything or not. But he said that it is a very normal process. Other places (like employers) often request a police report so it was a process that he was used to. I don' know how your husband would go about arranging it all from the States though...is he planning a trip back to Mexico anytime soon??

My husband is in Mexico right now. He can't enter the states to request the police report here. We'll write a letter, and he will have to sign it and send it up here for the police reports here I guess. I will let him know that your fiance got one down there. Thanks for letting me know. Maybe he can go get one of those this week. I am really tired of this waiting! I won't go back to Mexico because when I was there for my wedding, we were robbed at gunpoint. I was pretty traumatized by the whole event. I'm just doing what I can to get him back here as soon as possible. Thanks for the info!

Police report not needed from USA, for the time period he was in the USA - it'll come up in the namechecks -

see http://www.usaimmigrationattorney.com/SecurityNameChecksAndAdministrativeReview.html

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

When my fiance asked about the police report they gave him a list of documents he needed in order to get it. Things like an original birth certificate, his voter registration card, etc. We are also waiting for our NOA2 and going ahead in getting packet 3 organized so as soon as we do get the NOA2 we can send everything in as soon as possible!
