Whether your for it or against it....Parnell is going to get us (Alaska) screwed out of a lot of $$$ if he keeps this up.

Alaska governor refusing to enact health care law

JUNEAU, Alaska – Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell says he will not enact the federal health care overhaul after a judge in Florida struck down the law as unconstitutional.

Parnell considers that ruling the law of the land, barring implementation in the state. He said the state will pursue options of its own instead.

It's not completely clear what practical impact Parnell's unusual decision will have. Alaska has a state-run plan for residents previously denied coverage for pre-existing conditions. The law's main expansion is pending.

Alaska was one of 26 states party to the Florida lawsuit; however, in other cases, two federal judges upheld the law and another found a provision requiring citizens to buy health insurance is unconstitutional but didn't strike down the rest of the law.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Parnell considers that ruling the law of the land...

A district judge makes the law of the land now? Great. Get rid of Congress at once. Judge Vinson is now the Congress. The RWNs are now subscribing to legislating from the bench. Hooray!

Florida isn't deep red.

Compared to what? There is one statewide office held by a Democrat - that's Sen. Nelson. The state House is 81/39 in favor of the GOP, the state Senate is 28/11 in favor of the GOP. Our crook Governor, our Attorney General, CFO and Agriculture Commissioner are all Republicans - that's the entire executive. How are we not a deep red state? Which state is redder than this one?

The New Red/Blue/Purple Map of the US, as Redrawn Last Night

11/6/08

These were published today from Mark Newman, from the University of Michigan. They are newly up to date "cartographs" or visualizations of the political maps of US, based on yesterdays Presidential election.

Much better than the traditional "red state" or "blue state" mapping, this is done by county, using Red, Blue or shades of Purple, based on their percentage vote last night:

The next technique uses the same color scheme, but with each of the counties scaled to visually show their population size. This produces an oddly shaped but recognizable map, but helps us see by population, the voter breakdown:
