My manager has gone into hiding.

Well, sort of.

He emailed us our reviews today and they were confusing, to say the least. Glowing comments about technical leadership and effective communications, combined with ratings (the only thing that actually matters) that are lower than last year.

Every other year he sets up meetings to tell us what our ratings were and personally talk to us about the review. Not this year. This year we get them in an email with no offer of an actual meeting.

To top it off, we had a team meeting scheduled this afternoon and he canceled it with the note "No new information". I just went to talk to him about the team meeting (and did not bring up the review at all) and he seemed embarrassed and uncomfortable.

He is hiding out. I wonder why.

Could it be he himself is on the way out?

I don't know.

he might be in a class learning to deal with disgruntled workers that aren't getting raises this year.

No, he is in his office.

Another weird detail. His comments on the reviews are full of typos. This is the 3rd review I have from this manager and his writing is usually impeccable.

I'm thinking if he is experienced at delivering news of pay cuts and layoffs he would act fairly normal in this situation. However, if he's been hit personally that might explain his odd behavior.

Maybe. You have given me hope. Hope that he is the one being RIFd and not me

Oh another strange detail I just realized. He used to sit in his office with his back facing the door. If you stood at the door you could see his screen. Now he's decided to not use his docking station and is facing the door with his laptop screen facing him.. so you can no longer see what he's doing.

He doesn't have a weapon, does he?

wth are you worried about? with your education & experience you'd have a new & most likely better paying job in days.

I hate change.

ETA: I'd only admit that on a message board. IRL I embrace change and love a challenge!
