Hello VJ Family,

My step daughter's interview is March 7th and I noticed that her status given; IR2. Does it means that she will be U.S. citizen upon arrival to a port of entry. I have done research on this and I read where IR2 is given u.s. citizen status upon arriving to port of entry. let me know if this is correct. She is just 6 years of age.

No, IR-2 is just the class for a step child or child of immigrant. They will get a green-card, 2 year conditional if parents have been married less than 2 years at time of child's arrival, or a 10 year card if parrents have been married more than 2 years upon arrival.

Only way child becomes a citizen is if after child arrives, their parent becomes a citizen before I believe the child's 18th birth day, or after arrival their US citizen step parent adopts the child.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

IR2 is also given to a child who is eligible to receive citizenship through their USC natural parent but only once they arrive in the USA. If this is a natural child of the petitioner, they can apply for a US passport once they are on US soil. If a step child, they become eligible for citizenship when their natural parent does. Based on a CR1 for the foreign spouse and IR2 for the child, it sounds like a natural child of the USC. Please confirm.
