A joint bank account.

On the last point, I was added as a joint account holder to my now husband's American Express account when I still lived in Canada (and before we were married), and I was added to his bank accounts in the US (made them into joint accounts) the week I moved to the US weeks before we were married. I had my passport and my Canadian Driver's License which is what they used. They didn't look at anything to do with my immigration status. I didn't even have a SSN but was required to give that to them when I got it. This was with Bank of America. We both had to go in in person to set it up.

We were looking to set up bank account to start saving jointly during the K1 process is there a way to do this? Do any other Canadians know of a bank that will allow my fiance to access remotely or jointly during the process while in the States? Any info will be appreciated.

We wanted this same thing and was able to do so... but this is how.

My town has an RBC Bank (Royal Bank of Canada) even though I live in the states. There are many places that have a Canadian Bank in their US City. What we did was have him open a personal account at his RBC in Canada. Then when he was visiting me, we opened a joint account at the RBC here (since it's a Canadian Bank, they don't have any problems opening a joint account with americans and canadians and don't require things like SSN for the Canadian). Then because he had 2 accounts with the same bank, they were able to link the two, so now he can access the American one online (to transfer funds to his Canadian one, or just view our account).

So if I need to give him money, I put it in my American RBC account and he can transfer it between his two accounts, and if he wants to give me money, then he transfers money INTO the American Account. There are no fees, and the rate exchange is always done for us. If I go visit him in Canada, then he COULD add me to his personal account too, but we dont' really see a need for that at this time, unless I wanted the added priviledge of transfer the money for him.

Good luck!

I would suggest using TD Bank. I searched around to find a bank that was suitable for our situation and I've found TD Bank to be awesome. It's a Canadian bank, so when I travel to Canada and use my Visa/Debit card I do not get fees and they just automatically do the foreign currency adjustment. I also don't get slammed when I use the cash ATM in Canada either. I was also able to put my Husband on my account, him being the Canadian and myself the USC. I realize that's opposite of your situation, but because TD Bank is in both countries they might allow you to do the same.
