Police Report

Our I-129F was overnighted on Feb 2nd to the Dallas lock box by our lawyer. Our lawyer said I should get some of my information together for the interview such as a police report and Immunization Records. I have lived in Newfoundland and Alberta, I also lived in Ontario while attending school for two semisters. I went on the RCMP website and the only thing I can find on there is a Certified Criminal Record Check which requires finger printing. Is that what is needed?

Any help in this matter would be great :-)

I went into my local police station and asked for a Canada wide name check. I got it while I was waiting. The cost and time it takes to get it varies depending on where you go, though. So just go to your police station and ask them. If you don't have a criminal record, you do not need to have fingerprints done.

I live in a small town. Called them and they said I had to go to a court house and bring in a letter. I have a feeling the lady thought I was asking for a code of conduct or something. I may go to the police station in a nearby city. Do you know how up to date it has to be. We are only at the beginning of the process so it maybe too early.

It *can* be handled after getting the NOA2 but in my city it takes 6-8 weeks to have results returned.

Maybe call ahead and ask how long it might take for a Canada-wide police check and keep in mind that these are usually valid for a year so be careful of the timing.

Do a search on police checks on VJ and you should get a zillion responses. Prob the #1 all time question asked in the CDN forum! The search engine isn't the greatest, but chances are if you tweak your question a bit, you can find the info. Spend some time at the TOP of the forum too--LOTS of info, especially with REVIEWS of the interviews!

And its in ur best interest to know how the process goes--so read the K1 guide. Seen too many lawyers screw things up! And for 99.99% of things one does not need a lawyer they don't speed up the process for you, many times slow things down! And yes--I did use a lawyer! had not found VJ back in 2004.

Police checks are good for 1 year. its very simple (as long as your currently living in Canada) NO criminal record = NO FINGER PRINTING

As well the VISA process of has changed a bit in the last little while and ur lawyer may not be aware of some items, such as being able to book the inter view appt online and how the visa is mailed out to you. So take soem time and read the guides and scroll the pages here on the CDN forum. No 1 cares more about ur case then YOU.
