This is a long shot but.... anyone know where to get halal meat in Miami? Or MiddleEastern Market? I've been looking for awhile and haven't really found anything

There are quite a few in Fort Lauderdale (I know...we have visited quite a few as we live in West Palm Beach). I know my husband saw an advertisement for a large store in Miami in a Florida Arabic newspaper. Try this website (it lists all sorts of stores...we added one we found on to here in West Palm).

I may have posted this before but its so easy and soooooooo yummy I thought I'd post it again. I made it the other night and the hubster just loved it.

Amals chicken stuff

1lb fresh chicken strips (preferrably fajita size)

green peppers (1)

tomatoes (2)

potatoes (3)

red onions (1/2)

olive oil (to cover bottom of pan

spices gallore

boil chicken for 20 minutes , cut peppers into chunks, dice tomatoes , dice potatoes, cut onion into chunks

cover bottom of pot with olive oil and fry chicken for a few minutes to brown it.

throw in peppers, tomatoes, and onions - let fry together for about 10 minutes

put in casserole dish - mix in diced potatoes and cover with seasonings (i use fajita seasoning, seasoned meat tenderizer, garlic, salt, pepper, poultry seasoning) - cover with aluminum foil and bake at 400 for 30 minutes.

serve with pita bread and fruits. YUM

im curious, why boil teh chicken when you stir fry it then bake it? esp using chicken strips?

Honestly, it is coz I get home too late to thaw it. That way it cooks faster and also gets more of the yucky stuff off of it. I guess u wouldn't have to boil it but I hate standing over the stove (on top of getting home late) so boiling it lets me rest as it cooks :)

I went to Pensacola this weekend to my grand children's birthday party. Riley was 1 and Olivia was 4. I went by the fish market before I left for home. Got 10 lbs of shrimp, some salmon steaks and tuna. Stopped by the International Market in Mobile and bought some ground beef, lamb, and whole chickens. My freezer is stuffed. Also got a big 5 lb box of fresh dates. They are so good. I guess I am all good to go, Inshaallah.

I'm looking for an authentic Egyptian kahk recipe. I would love a recipe that someone has actually made and knows how it turns out. My MIL has given my husband directions on how to make it but the measurements are weird and as you all know baking is a science unlike regular cooking. I would so appreciate a recipe for this traditional Eid cookie. Thanks in advance!

ETA...check out this website for some very authentic Egyptian recipes (no kahk recipe though :() Has a recipe for ghraibah, also very traditional for Eid but Moh doesn't like ghraibah....of course.

Thanks moody for this site! It has a lot of good recipes and I enjoyed reading through them with my husband planning what kind of foods I would be able to make for him in the US. :) He was pleased with knowing that he will be able to eat some of his favorites!!
