Has anyone had a similar experience...I am almost finished compiling my petition packet for submission. I have some receipts to go inside the packet for proof and the engagement testimony from the church in Arabic. I had the Birth Certificate translated and notarized since it is required. However, do I have to have the receipts and engagement testimony translated AND notarized, or just translated? And If only translated by a "certified translator" does this mean anyone can do it who is capable of the translation? Can my fiance translate them and simple write a statement "I, John Doe, am competent in the Arabic and Englis language. This document has been translated to the best of my knowledge"? I went to have a price check for 8 receipts and the brief engagement testimony and they were going to charge me 250 with notarization, is this necessary? Any prior experiences and advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

You are right on all counts. Notarization not needed and any qualified person, your fiance included, who can credibly sign a statement that he/she is qualified to translate, can do it.

\Make sure to send the original certification.
