Mexican Musicians Killed After Encore Refused

Furious audience members killed two members of a band in Mexico after being told the music had to stop. The band—faced with demands for more from a group of drunk, aggressive audience members—had already played one encore at the Guadalajara bar before the owner pulled the plug long after closing time, the New York Daily News reports.

One of the instigators threw a grenade at the stage after the music stopped. The band fled for the exit but musicians were met with a hail of bullets that killed two of them, including 22-year-old bandleader Jonathan Martinez. Police believe the attackers were connected to drug gangs, but they have little to go on, as nobody was able to provide details about the shooters' getaway vehicle. (In other Mexico-related news, police say a founding member of the Zetas drug cartel has been arrested.)

I've been to some pretty bad concerts, but I don't think throwing a grenade has ever crossed my mind as an appropriate response.

This is what happens when everyone and their mother has access to all the grenades they want. It's a sign of the superiority of the United States that, unlike Mexico, we do not allow unfettered access to grenades. It is little wonder that so many Mexicans flee to the United States every year, pursuing the American dream of life and liberty. How amazing it must be to raise your children in a culture that does not worship the grenade.

I think this is what happens when there is no regulation, or at least no enforcement on citizens being armed.

This would never happen if the musicians had grenades and armed security of their own and prominently displayed them while performing. Now that's utopia.

I think that is a whole new level of musicianship. The ability to play the guitar, while holding an assault rifle must be very difficult.

Life is tough. If they can't do it, then they're practically asking to be killed. Any musician who performs without prominently displayed an assault rifle in his or her own defense probably wants to be shot. If you're not willing to defend your life, your life can't be worth much at all.

Good point. Musicians without a Fender grenade launcher just doesn't want to live.

If true, that's a damn shame. Grenades were outlawed and only outlaws had grenades as a result. If only the musicians and every audience member had their own grenades, this tragedy would have been averted as everyone lobbed a grenade everywhere and we all know grenades lobbed in opposite directions cancel each other out.

I wonder if this is the utopia that the fans of misinterpreting the 2nd amendment want.

Grenades and guns in and of themselves do not kill. It is when these instruments are used by thugs, creeps, and murderers that this happens. People get murdered by hammers, baseball bats, knives, pipe, rope, chains, etc., etc. The list goes on forever.

But let's blame inanimate objects rather than the criminals that use them to commit crimes. Typical liberal logic.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995
