Hell everyone,

I am new to the site and honestly never thought I would need to know this type of information until I met a girl in the Philippines online and have fallen in love with her. I am going there to meet her the first of April and am planning on taking a ring with me to propose. I have been reading a lot on here and looking over the forms for the K-1. It is a little intimidating, I am 36 years old and have a bit of a criminal background from my younger days when I was 18 to 23. I had 2 DUI's that I was convicted of and also a possession of marijuana. For the possession I served 10 day work release. So I am wondering if this will affect my chances of qualifying. Also I make just under 40K but pay a lot of bills so I don't have any money in savings. I am not really sure what they are looking for with the financial information. If anyone could give me their opinion on these topics I would greatly appreciate it.

Josh

You only need to make $18,212 to meet the 2 person poverty guideline so I think you are fine on that. They look at the total current income, not the bills.

Nothing you have saidd is a reason to deny you, you make enough to qualify. the only thing is you might wanna get your savings up. btween travel and completing your AOS 5k is a save point i would say.

i mean for processing and travel. How much you have in the bank isnt as important as how much you make for the affidavit of support.

between flying back and forth to the phils and paying for all the paper work i have spent about 7k. but i went back twice and once was with my son and i had to file the I129f twice before i was approved.

You never know whats gonna happen so its good to save anyway for just in case something screwy happens.

To the OP, I know you say you pay alot of bills but you really do need to get your savings up if you wana start this process especially with a filipina. Im guessing you havent met in person yet so here is a quick break down for you.

Flight: 1k round trip

hotel: my first trip i paid maybe 300bucks for 10 days

food: maybe 200 (depends on you)

misc: gettin aroudn and other stuff 200

gifts: maybe like 150 bucks got kids toys and my SO something

I 129 f filing fee: i paid like 500 but there is a new rate

NBI and police clearance for SO: sent her about 150 maybe 200 and her and her mom got everything done with that (travel and expense if they have to go back to hometown)

Medical in phils: bout 200

visa application fee: bout 350

travel and expenses in manila if they dont live in manila: depends on where they are 200 to 300 maybe? not sure havent reached that point yet

think thats about it, mind you this is all dependent on the person and can be done a bit cheaper i guess. but some things cost what they cost and when you travel abroad you really should have some just in case money.

on my second trip there i gave all my pesos to my SO forgetting about the airport tax. i had enough to fly out to manila but i split my ticket between two airlines cuase it was cheaper so i had to pay it again and didnt have enough, i flew china airlines and had my son with me at that time and couldnt get into my atm. the china airline employees all pitched in to help me, was every nice of them and i felt hella bad cause im sure they get paid ####### wages.

but they were so nice to me i will always fly china airlines now, and if i see the people who helped i will repay the kindness, even though i kinda thought cathay pacific was a waaaay nicer flight, took them firsrt time i flew.
