My fiancee and I are very worried about her safety in Batangas right now. Apparently there have been several polical based shootings there in the last 2 months. The first one was a murder in November of an ex cheif. Somehow an uncle of my fiancee was involved. Apparently someone found the key to his motocycle at the scene of the murder and people are looking for him, even though he says he was not involved. So he says. He stayed at my fiancee's family's house in Batangas for a few days, but then left to another province for safety. My fiancee was very scared to have him stay there, but couldn't do anything about it since her dad makes the rules. Now that her uncle has left, they have heard word of people looking for him and her dad, asking where they live. She is very worried now, especially with another killing that happened a few days ago, and then she said another shooting today. Her dad is now packing a gun, and teaching her young adult cousins to shoot and carry one too. They are being told not to sleep at night and to be very aware.

I am now very worried about my fiancee and her daughter's safety. I've asked her to leave to go stay with her sister in Alabang, but I don't think her dad will let her. Plus, if she did this, her daughter would be missing school.

What do you think? Is this something I should be worried about there? I don't know much about the story, only the few things my fiancee has told me. But she has to be very hush hush about it, especially when her dad is around. Plus, she is not good at explaining the situation to me. Does anyone else know about the killings?

Below are some links that might be related. I know the second one was one she told me about a couple days ago. I believe the first one was the one her uncle was involved in. Do you know of any other links to stories about this or other related shootings so I can get more information?

Is this something I might be able to file an expidite for on our K-1 visa? Anything to get her here quicker and keep her safe would be nice. Currently we have waited 4 months for NOA2 from CSC.

Nope, Visa expedition requires something on the side of the UCS such as a medical emergency.

This place is insane, sorry to say. I really enjoyed my first couple of years here in the Philippines, but it seems every day I become more and more aware of how dangerous this place is. And it just seems to be getting worse. I just want out now.

If it is any comfort, the bad guys usually don’t go after the families.

There are two occupations you defiantly don’t want to get involved with in the Philippines, politics and journalism. Seems it’s open season on those people. Political shootings are way to common here.

This is just my opinion, but I wouldn’t raise any red flags regarding your visa processing, they might not look favorably on someone somehow tied to a political killing. Regardless of innocence.
