It may have been more of a New England thing. Not sure. I can remember seeing it on WSBK out of Boston, and the local CT channels. Not sure about WPIX, WOR or WNEW.

I don't think I remember any commercials at all from the early 80s. My mom didn't let me watch much TV anyway. I've spent my entire adult life making up for it.

I remember Nissen bread, but not the Ted Williams ad. Maybe I'm not so ready for the tomb.
