Hi!

I got my EAD card last week 01/05, my AOS status online now says that it has been approved on 01/11 and is now in the card/document production stage. I applied for my SSN yesterday 01/12 and we were given and letter that says that they need to verify the documents I presented and it will take up to 4 weeks. Does it really take 4 weeks? Is it better if I had waited for my green card before I applied for the SSN? or is it the same processing time using EAD card or SSN card?

Thanks in advance!Ü

I also applied for my SS# after my EAD was approved and received it in less than 10 days...Four weeks is pretty long to wait for a SS# i doubt it would take that long especially if you applied with EAD which is an accepted documentation.

It should not take that long and when you get our EAD card you should have no issues getting your SSN

You can't really go by what happened to someone else. Since I assume your status couldn't be verified while you were in the office, you are probably looking at the very least another week, or worst case a month or more. Whether you should have waited until you had your Green card, hard to say. Now if the office is on the ball, you could luck out, and get an unrestricted SSN card out of this, and that would save you another trip to the SSA office.

RM 10211.025 Evidence of Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) Status for an SSN Card

https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0110211025

4. Alternate evidence of LPR status

a. Employment Authorization Document (I-766) showing certain alien categories

Generally, when DHS grants or approves an adjustment to LPR status, the alien receives his or her I-551 card several weeks after the adjustment to LPR status has been granted. In these cases, while the alien is awaiting the I-551 card, SAVE will verify the alien’s LPR status, since it is the current immigration status.

Under DHS guidance, we have established alternate evidence of LPR status for those applicants who have adjusted to LPR status and are awaiting their I-551 cards. These guidelines apply even if the applicant does not indicate he or she has adjusted to LPR status.

Consider the alien to be an LPR if all of the following requirements are met:

-- The applicant submits an I-766, and

-- On the face of the I-766, the Category is one listed in RM 10211.025C.4.b.

b. Required I-766 Categories

C9, C09 or C-9 (ADJUSTMENT APPLICANT)

There are other categories, but I figured this is the one you have.
