One issue not discussed in this thread is the previous history of Skrooge. Is applying for the five year, therefore must be an immigrant himself. So how did he get here? Due to a previous marriage to a US citizen? Or by some other means. If he came via marriage, getting remarried, in particular to someone from his home country could raise huge flags. Not only for the interview, but also in the petitioning stage.

Just reflecting back on the hell I went through in bringing my wife to be here. Was previously married, am a natural born and so was my ex-wife and we were divorce nine years before. Marriage is just about the only way to bring a person here unless you are lucky with that highly limited lottery. So the USCIS sure makes a huge issue out of it. Was treated like a criminal, until I proved myself, innocent. And that took a lot of paperwork and explaining. Even got to the point where we were considering a different country that would accept us, so we could be together.

I did not become a permanent resident because of marriage. This is my first marriage & I have no children. I became a permanent resident due to my mother filing filing for me. So yes I applied based on the five year rule. When I left, my wife (gf back then) and I had been dating just over a year & we decided to make the relationship work. I promised I would work on making a better life for us while she finished school. She has since graduated university & is working. I just want to get her here with me. We have been back & forth seeing each other but it is time she is here with me. I know its a long & stressful road from here now but we are closer to being together than when we first started.

Then if that is the case, you shouldn't have any problems that was the original context of your post. I certainly know the feeling about being separated from that very special person you may only meet once in your life. Can only say, its hell on earth, but that time goes go by. It is not against the law, even from the USCIS to get married to anyone. But some research is required to bring that person here in the shortest period of time.

Sections of this wonderful board cover that, but this section is on US citizenship. From what you said, get married, and get your interview over with, but still can apply as a LPR to get the ball rolling.
