SSN Question

hi everyone. i am already trying to get things ready for the arrival of the wife and kids next month. i have already spoken to our work's HR regarding getting them added on my medical. i was told i can add them outside the enrollment period (HR person used some term but i forget what she said hehehe) when they get here. she told me that they would need to have SS numbers.

my question is...will they find out what their SS numbers will be when they are processed at the immigration at their POE?

No because POE is POE not SSN office.

The SSN should come in the mail a few weeks after arrival. If it does not for whatever reason, they need to go down to the SSN office and apply for the SSN.

thanks for the quick reply. my HR person told me that i will have 90 days from the start of coverage to submit the info. hopefully we get the info in the mail before the 90 days are up.

Can you find out what term that your HR dept told you?

My HR dept told me that I have to wait until the open enrollment period which is this coming July.

We just change HR & I recall that the previous HR people telling me I can add outside the period but now the new HR people is telling me no.
