However, people would not stay in a relationship unless they were getting something out of it, and so perhaps the other party is giving something which, although not monetary, is needed by the other and is thus power of a different sort.

I can't tell you how long I stayed in my first marriage due to the money. In my head I would talk to myself about how much longer to stay; when this would be paid off or when the boy graduated from college.

There really does come a point though where creature comforts just don't make up for self-worth and dignity. Neither of which I felt I possessed at that point.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

 possible, but i doubt it.

A woman can harbor a resentment longer than the volcano under Yellowstone which goes off every 600,000 years - it is obviously female

When I was unemployed for a year and living off my savings, I bought my flash GF a beer instead of her usual double G & T

She said 'If you can't afford a girlfriend, you shouldn't have one'

She started an affair the next week and saw me 3 nights a week and him four. That went on for 4 months until I found out.

Never underestimate the cold blooded viciousness of a woman - we men do not have a monopoly on it

Now you are aware you will be ok. I sat down with Tiger and told him to knock it off but he wouldn't listen and now look. Some other stud is walzing his Swedish wife right now. Keep the home fires burning as Chuck Berry says.

You have to give them just enough bait to keep em interested in the hook, but not to the extent they are gorged and swim off to digest the meal elsewhere

... and keep 50% of your liquid in gold bars overseas

Achieving the right balance is easier said than done, I imagine. I will do my best.

So now I have to try to find out what my wifes 10 and 20 and 30 year plans are. Great, as if I didn't have enough to worry about as it is.

somewhere in that plan may be a sports car.

It's often an expensive move to be nearer their sister or whatever... living in some freezing one horse town called sucksville...

Then it's palm trees

Then it's back to be close to mother

Then it's a better neighborhood

then it's bed socks at 8.30pm and jigsaw puzzles

and then you die

Ms. Kim's article is cited as documenting "the high level of abuse ... in these relationships".

Take that element out of the original post (written by Marina Adshade) and tell me what you think about it. Let's not get too wrapped up in the tangential point being made by Jane Kim.

I already did.

To parse out a critical and unsubstantiated foundational element of her work (you call it "tangential" - not sure how you arrived to that conclusion) seems an exercise in futility - kind of like analyzing a soundbite (which makes for great entertainment, but precious little in the way of genuine education/enlightenment).

You guys make a great argument for seeking out submissive wives, even if you have to go to Ulan Freakin Bator to find her.

Doesn't help. The submissive wife tells you that, "You're the boss!" until she meets her American cohorts that explain that she gets to keep everything that she makes, and half of everything you make. Then it's, start bringing over her family when she becomes a USC, or she leaves you for an old boyfriend from back home, and buys new sports car.
