We have a petition being processed at the Vermont centre at present.

Its only a week or two away from the 5 month mark and we were always told this was pretty much the maximum.

But today we checked and the 'National Average' was 20 months.

Just wanted to make sure this isnt the new waiting time for everyone? looked like it was pretty wrong when i checked with the vermont averages and also the ones for california.

There is a difference between total processing time and Service Center processing time. Service Center time is just one of the steps; albeit the longest one. Lately they have been running 5 1/2 to 6 months, but since the official time is 5 months, you can call at that time to ask them what the problem is.

When you call, be polite but persistent. If you are not persistent, they will shrug you off, but if you are impolite, they will really not want to help you. So do your best to balance the two, work your way up the ladder until you get someone who knows what they are talking about (i.e. not the first person who answers), and find out what is really going on with your case.

As far as the rest of the time goes, that varies from embassy to embassy. Look at the web page of the embassy handling the case for more information.

It is averaging in the Nebraska Center and National Benefits Center which rarely process K-1s, which is why the National Average is so high. If you look at the two main onces that process the bulk of K-1s (Vermont and California) ,they are both at 5 months, so the Average is 5, though it has been running 5-6 for Vermont recently.

*Texas is also at 5 months though they mainly process payments*,

Thanks for the posts back, they were very reassuring and helped us a load over the last few weeks when things got to us a little with the whole visa thing.

Now on our time line its giving us estimated dates that tie in pretty well with what you guys have said which is raising spirits a load too.....seems like the 20 month thing really is a total mess up.
