Hi everyone and happy new year to you all, hope you got to spend this new years eve with your loved one...if not then just keep in mind that you are not the only one ;)

so this is my first post here, im working on getting the petition ready for sending to USCIS and looking for a good lawyer.

as far as I know they might be able to speed up the process a little, help with complications along the way (if any!) and make sure that were sending enough documents so we wont get a RFE later on (since each RFE will delay the process for a long time)

I was just wondering if there are any cons to having the paperwork prepared by an attorney when it goes for the review ?!

any other advice regarding this will be appreciated.

Thank you for your time :)

Good Luck

I thought about hiring a lawyer, but then decided to arrange the application packet on my own using the VJ step-by step guide lines. Most lawyers I researched charged "flat fees", BUT you have to read the FINE PRINT on the contract before you sign...They might say "all you need to pay is just $550, and we do the work", but if somethings comes up, and the case incounters a problem later on, then it is $300 per hour!!!! Things to consider:

-You still have to gather all the required documents and evidence.

-A lawyer cannot speed or expedite the application.

-A lawyer does not gauarantee that a RFE will not be issued.

-A lawyer can potentially delay sending the application if he/she is swamped with other cases.

Good Luck with whatever you decide. Make sure your lawyer is an Immigration lawyer who is a member of AILA.

I did and I have yet to see the fru

Do the research ad ask about he proper layout of the packet. Submit the packet in the proper form and use this forum to ask for advice. You'll get the advice you need.

If I had discovered this forum BEFORE I filed for K1 visa, I would have NOT hired a lawyer.

The only advantage is that they offer counseling BEFORE the interview at he Bangkok consulate when the K1 is approved. They will help my Fiancee answer the questions properly so we can be together.

We will see if it proves to be worth while. I will post on here if it is and which firm I went through.

I ditto these items here.

OP: One more thing to consider is how complicated the case may be. I have seen people post that their case was straightforward and no lawyer was necessary. I have also seen people post about issues in their case that made it quite complicated which necessitated the need for a lawyer. Ultimately the decision is yours and you will make the decision that makes you feel the most comfortable.

IMO, the items ArabLoveMorocco pointed are things people "get a lawyer" or "you can't do this without a lawyer" have never thought about or considered.
