Hello everybody!

My husband and I are going to start with my AOS. For now we are not planning (or at least i have my EAD and start working) a joint account since I'm practically broke. We are living at his parents place and will be like that for 1 or 2 years more since his parents have a big house and his dad is currently unemployed so my husband's brother and his wife moved in as well in order to help.

I guess by the time of the interview we can't give a lease together because we will be living at his parents. Should we open a joint account to prove that our marriage is legitimate? what else could we present as a prove?

Thank you

God bless

why not have his parents write a living contract and then use that. Get a joint bank account doesn't matter if you don't have a job or don't make money, share a cell phone plan etc etc.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

A joint bank account is probably one of the best pieces of evidence. With such new stringent banking laws in place, the USCIS will get the idea that some scrutiny authenticating you as a husband and wife will be better validated. If your U.S. citizen spouse has a checking account, then have them add you to the account. While being processed at the bank ask the bank officer for a copy of the paperwork that is prepared for the joint account. FYI, you will have to have received/issued SS # in order that you can be placed on a joint account. Other examples we are using are as follows, letters from the social security office, pamphlets that we received from for prescriptions from the pharmacy, joint medical cards, proof of beneficiary of insurance, documents from the local Health Unit during follow ups, etc.

Maleman: That isn't necessarily true.

My husband had some real issues with getting his SSN, due to errors on the part of the POE officer, and the Embassy itself. My bank allowed us to use Peter's passport number for identification and added him to my account, because it was NOT an interest-bearing account, and therefore required no tax reporting on their part. You might check into this if you need the option.

We didn't submit any proof other than the required documents for the forms and they've transferred our case to California for processing (usually doesn't require an interview). Our only RFE was their claim that I didn't sign the I-864 (I have copies to prove otherwise) so I can only assume it's a tactic they sometimes use to stall the clock on their processing times.

Good luck to you!
