Greetings,

Inday and myself were recently engaged, have started the K1 process, have many questions, and have recently joined the forum. Currently are filling out I-129F. For now, are wondering (1) even though documents may not have to be notarized, would it be a good idea to do so and (2) for documents supporting evidence of meeting within last 2 years, are personal letters from others of help?

Thank you for answer to this question and any other advice any member may be able to provide.

1) If it does not have to be notarized, then why bother? It will not make a bit of a difference either way. If you want to notarize, then you can.

2)Personal letters from others? Why? They are interested in the relationship between you and her. Plus, how would letters from others provide evidence that you both met?

There's no need to notarize documents unless and until they request it. Birth certificates, marriage certificates, death certificates, and divorce decrees do need to be notarized/certified by the issuing authority). Anything else, they will let you know if they want it notarized - but that's fairly unlikely to happen (unless they think there may be something fraudulent, I guess).

Regarding personal statements, they're not required at this stage. If you want to include them, it probably wouldn't hurt, but it also wouldn't help. Those sort of statements, like photographs, are considered "secondary evidence", and they prefer to see primary evidence -- boarding stubs, hotel receipts, passport/visa stamps, ATM withdrawls, any copies of entry paperwork (the equivalent of a I94). Secondary evidence is great, it helps support that you did indeed meet, you have a relationship, etc. For the purpose of passing the I129F stage and entering the K1 stage, it is not necessary, unless you want the consulate to review it when they get your paperwork. For the PI, that's probably not necessary unless you've got some major red flags.

which is your visa service center? When we filed the petition I-129F, we did not notarized anything. I only had to translate the document of my marital status and legalized it. As a evidence of relationship, send photos of both of you together, plane tickets, photocopy of your passport showing how many times you have visited your fiance/e, emails, something to show that you have seen each other in person.

ArabLoveMorocco, FYI, a Moroccan member was recently given an RFE requesting notarized versions of documents that in some instances she had already provided, not notarized as there was no stated requirement that those documents be notarized. Those documents included letters from family and friends attesting to the relationship. The petitioner had provided some in the original packet, not notarized, and the RFE requested notarized versions from basically all of petitioner's and beneficiary's relatives.

hello, it probably isnt needed for the petition, but it might be helpful for her to present letters later at her interview from her parents stating they met you, they like you, and they approve of the relationship, especially if she is young, it couldn't hurt, thats for sure, good luck!

To All Who Replied,

Thank you very much for your useful responses. We have found the information very helpful. After researching the K1 process a little bit, we realized we had many questions and, honestly, starting the process feels a little intimidating yet at the same time exciting. I am sure we will have more questions as we go along. Inday and I both thank all of you for helping us at this point; it feels good to know others familiar with the process and are supportive in our endeavor. Looking forward to continuing as members here on VisaJourney.com --RK and Inday
