I'm in the process of gathering the necessary documentation for citizenship. Do I need to send certified copies of my marriage certificate and divorce decree of my wife? Or can I just send in the souvenir copy of the marriage certificate that I have?

Thanks

send only copies unless asked for orginals, when you go to the interview bring the orginals, marriage certificate, divorce, you and you wife, prove of citizen ship us passport,or birthcertificate,

In Wisconsin, we sent in the original or one of them of our marriage certificate, states on the certificate, a $10,000 fine if copied, wasn't worth the risk for five bucks, all the rest of the stuff was copies, about an inch thick worth of copies. We took all the originals in and you should leave with all the originals, that is purely for verification you didn't alter the copies. A lot depends upon your IO whether they want to check all of your copies to make sure they are verbatim. Would be rather stupid to alter your copies.

Wifes' IO was paranoid, but made sure she got her foreign documents back, those would cost an arm, a leg, and a torso to replace.

Send photocopies of the certified documents. Be prepared to bring the originals to the interview. My wife just received a notice to bring the originals of my divorce decree to her interview.
