Hi everyone!

this is my first post here

so I have been recently offered a job to Columbus OH and I will be applying a 3 yrs TN visa.

I am planning to take my car with me to OH. I am already in the mid of getting a letter of Compliance from Toyota Canada.

So what is my next step? Can I just drive to POE with my letter of compliance and explain to them that I want to import my car when I activae my TN visa?

As I read some website that I will required Registered Importer, which is a company approved by the U.S.Department of Transportation to bring any non conforming vehicle into compliance to allow it to be driven in the U.S

Is that true???

Pls help! as I am getting alot of conflicted information..

thanks!!!

Tell them your importing the car and entering on TN visa.

They will tell you to go inside.

For the car basically they will print out a bunch of papers and have you sign it. ( i dont know if you have to pay duty on TN visa for importing your car) But thats about it for importing the car.. lol they do all the paper work and you just sign it and take your copy if it. You will need to bring thos papers with you to the DMV or whever you need to go to register your car and get state plates. They should take that copy from you (the place i went to made a copy of the copy and kept the copy..?) and they will keep that paperwork in a file folder with your car information.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

thank you for your reply.

so I really do not need to hire a car importer then :) that's great news.

Since that I may need to pay duty on the car, should I get a letter from someone that states the estimate on my car?

If you can get one and its not too expencive to get one it could help, if you do need to pay duty on it, again not sure if you need too!

You dont need to hire a car importer, just need your compliance letter and your ownership papers! they will go look at the VIN number on your car to verify it.

If you go to the pinned topic at the top of the forum (or in my signature) you will find a couple of links on how to import your vehicle. Or click here

You don't need to hire an importer. You're going to need your registration. You're also going to need an estimate on its value. You can use the Kelley Blue Book to help you with that. But you'll want to keep it the lowest value that you can because some States will charge you tax when you register. It is even county-specific. My county in FL charged me tax but someone else's county did not.

99.9999% of us are going through relationship visas, not work visas

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
