My wife is from Monterrey Mexico and had her biometrics done on 08/01/06. We received our interview notice and will be interviewing in San Antonio Texas on October 05, 2006. I have been reading in this forum that many people applying for AOS are being (approved pending FBI name check). Is there any rhyme or reason as to who this happens to and why? Is this happening to everyone? how long might this take? Our notice also says, "If you do not speak English fluently, you should bring an interpreter." Can this be anyone who speaks English and Spanish fluently or do they have to have some kind of certification???

I just went through SA yesterday, you can find a brief review of my interview here, I am approved pending FBI clearance.

Rhyme or reason? There's a list in this section of others that are in the same situation, there doesn't seem to be any consistancies other than the clearance hasn't come back yet. My maiden name isn't common but my married name is, I'm not sure if that is a reason though as no reason was given.

Good luck with your upcoming interview! :)

Not just something bad.

If the name comes up in any FBI file for any reason a hit can be triggered. Witness, someone who gave a statement, etc.

It can happen to anyone. There are people waiting from all countries.

I had to get very low level security clearance. That generated delay with FBI namecheck for N400. This happened when FBI was still informing private persons of completion. Once I knew the check was done, called local CIS office, talked to the officer. She checked the file, said "oh, yeah, it was done 2 weeks ago", and took it from there.

The delay just seems to happen to certain people, myself included. My best friend went through this process at the exact same time as me and her AOS flew threw without even need for an interview...makes no sense to me!

You can do the interpretation yourself or take a friend with you. We took a friend as I do not know Spanish fluently and could not translate technical words - niether could my friend - words like biometrics and terrorist etc! (the interviewer did ask me - why can't you translate and how do we talk (my answer in English.) By the way - the interviewer spoke slowly and my wife responded without needing translation for all but 2 or 3 questions. Good Luck
