I recently received the DS 230 forms and other information regarding this packet from the NVC. A couple of times they refer to needing the ORIGINAL marriage license and birth certificates. I have these items and have no problem submitting the originals.

However... a few weeks ago I read a post on here regarding document submission for the 230. Someone had stated that the NVC no longer requires original documents for this process. [They require the originals at the time of the interview]. I was just wondering if this is true, and if it is where that is stated?

Thanks for the help!!

I called NVC a couple of weeks ago about another matter, and did also ask about the originals. The lady I spoke with did mention that I did need the originals. It also did mention to send the originals on the letter I got with the 230 form, so I did send the originals. I didn't want to take a chance.

Good Luck :)

btw You don't need to send the USC birth certificate.

Ok.....to clear this up. The Service Center and NVC are two completely seperate issues when it comes to photo copies as opposed to originals/certified copies. At the Service Center originals/certified copies are no longer required, only photo copies need to be submitted.

NVC stage.

eg. From USCIS website.

For those applying in Canada, Albania, Turkey, United Arab Emirates or on the continent of Africa both the DS-230 parts I & II are requried to be returned back to NVC along with original/certified copies of documents (birth certificate etc).

For those NOT applying in Canada, Albania, Turkey, United Arab Emirates or on the continent of Africa only DS-230 part I is required to be returned back to NVC. Part II and original/certified copies of documents (birth certificate etc) are to brought along to interview.

Aside from that the applicants MUST ALWAYS go with what they are instructed to submit by NVC on their DS-320 instructions. Not all packages are the same. One that goes to China eg is going to be different then one that goes to France.

They sure know how to confuse people!!! I am applying in Canada and on my barcode instruction sheet, it says only the send DS230 part one and the documents asked for. Part one is the only one I sent. Sure hope I don't get a RFE for sending what they asked for. I'll just have to wait and see.

Which is exactly why I added that one must do what they are instructed to do in their DS-230 package. The information I posted re the various countries I used as an example even though it is straight off their site. If your instructions only requested the DS-230 part I and a list of documents to be obtained and submitted and you did such.....then why would you get an RFE :)

I called NVC yesterday to see where my application is at, and guess what? Supposedly, I have something missing in what I sent :( A letter was mailed out to me on Feb 15th, but I haven't received it yet. I can't imagine it being the DS230 part 2 when they instructed me to DS230 part one and the documents they asked for. StephieJoyce, maybe you should send both parts regardless of what they tell you to do. Will keep you posted!!

Well, I called NVC today, and the RFE was for the DS-230 part 2. My instructions make no mention of sending the part 2 and I did mention this to the guy that I spoke with. Supposedly, they send me the wrong forms. The forms they sent me were only for sending part 1 :( So to all doing the CR-1 through Montreal, send both forms :)

Jinxlar -

Thanks so much for the warning!!! My instructions say to ONLY send form 1, but I guess this means that I will be sending both of them now.

I am SO ready to be done with this whole process.
