Greetings all-

I chose to have my k1 visa and passport to be sent by express post from Montreal vs the dhl method. The nearest lcoation for dhl was almost 2 hour drive so....went that route.

Does anyone know when or how long it takes to recieve it from the consulate? If he told me I can't remember - I think at that point - as i was doing the happy dance...not too much was retained!

5 days or longer to get it. The xpress tracking generally doesnt work too even when you payed for it =(. Just keep watching your mail.

The main problem with the "slowness" is how soon Montreal actually mails out the packet!! Can take them awhile sometimes

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Here is my time line from just a few weeks ago. I had my interview in Montreal on October 20th and the DHL tracking system showed that it was at their location (in Montreal) on the 21st. However, by the time I figured out how to do the actual tracking, a few days had passed. But technically, it was there the very next day. From what I've been reading though, the wait seems to usually be longer than that.

Good luck!

I had my visa sent to me through Xpress post back in August, and I thought the service was pretty reliable. I guess it all depends on when Montreal mails it. But after that, I got it really quick. My interview was on a Monday, the tracking number appeared on Canada Post at like 6:30 pm on Friday, and I had my visa on the following Monday...
