Me and my fiancé are trying to figure out which visa path is best for us. We have the proof of one visit from May 2009 and I will be visiting again in March of 2011 the reason we had such a long period between visits because I was in college and had other issues going on but now we are ready to work on our life together. My question is if I marry him in Jamaica and we live there for a while will it be easier to get a cr-1/ir-1 or would it be better to just wait and get a k-1 visa.

Yes I'd say it would be easier.. you'llmake it much easier to have "things together" residence.. Especially since it seems you havent seen him since 2009 .... Have you maintained a "relationship" When you file for the AOS you have to be able to show proof that you have the Intent to move back to the USA..

Others Might Have something else to add... best of luck.

It wouldn't necessarily be easier - because you have to prove that you can support him here in the US, and to do that you will need proof of income - so moving to Jamaica might make that difficult.

No one can say what is the right way or the wrong way - for the fiance visa technically you have to prove you have met in person 1 time in the past two years.

To be honest, and trust me I know how hard this is to be apart from the one you love - if you have only met in person 1 time, I would say slow down a bit and take more trips - the more time you spend together, the stronger your relationship. You say you are in college - can you go down in the summer and stay for a month or two? This process is difficult as it is, and the stronger your foundation is with your fiance, the easier it is to get through the adjustment.

I just wanted to point out another factor too is you have to remember that it is going to be and extremely difficult adjustment period for the both of you once he is here. Culturally and financially so you may talk to him on the phone everyday but you really have to know him as well as what you are getting into. He won't be able to work for maybe upwards to a year and for any man that is extremely difficult. You will be supporting him for everything so just make sure you are prepared in that aspect too. Take your time...true love never dies.
