Perspectives... why as adults do we lose them so easily?

Tonight I was sitting with my young son and he was brooding. I asked him what he was thinking about so intensely. He looked up at me with big troubled eyes. That's not something easy to see on a child's face.

"Mom, is the world really going to end Tuesday?"

I remembered the other night his older brother was watching CNN and telling us how Iran was threatening to flex its nuclear muscles over Israel on the 22nd. The media embraced it in their typical frenzy, shouting "the world ends on August 22nd" complete with its own high tech graphics and ominous theme music. Ugh.

The child took it to heart. I mean, it was on the NEWS.

"No, Tuesday will be a day like any other day," I reassured him, hoping like crazy it would be. "The governments are just making their noises and the media is dancing to it, that's all."

He let out a big breath and smiled, running to tell his brother the news that the world would not end on Tuesday. I heard his voice in the other room.

"The world's not ending Tuesday! Mom said!"

So about perspectives, why is the world of adults so busy with their high dramas that they forget the delicate innocense of a child's heart. I swear they leave big ugly boot marks during times like these. The media is utterly irresponsible. It leaves some pretty large messes for us to clean up as parents. I'm hopeful that I can use these opportunities to raise far wiser adults then these.

I remember as a kid seeing what was going on back in Iran...it use to scare the hell out of me...I vaguely remember thinking things also that the world was going to end, it is sad what the media does to society, and to the minds of young innocent children, but sadly, im sure it will only get worse from here

Filed DCF in Jordan from 7-05 to 3-06, Approved for I-R1.

Immigration Free until 2008.

I agree dollface...I also remember being in grade school during one of the "conflicts" and wondering if I'd be there the next day...I was scared to go to sleep at night...it was traumatizing for me...I really wish they (the media) would pick and choose their words more carefully.

In today world the media plays such a crucial role in everyones lives...it is sad to see that most of the time the influence is so negative...I feel that there is too much TV that children are exposed to and it is only backfiring...I must say that sometimes I am glad that I grew up in Poland with only two TV channels and a lot of outdoor playtime...in US childhood seems to be strip of its innocence way too early...Times change, technology has penetrated everyday life to such a degree that it is almost impossible to escape all the media frenzy...that is why I applaud the parents who take an active role in all aspects of parenting...Children are so precious...
