im thinking about submitting my application for my fiances visa but I am self employed and my tax return shows a negative of -$18,000. I know this year my tax return will be totally different and I will be in the positive but Im wondering what is the minimum you need to make for the application to get approved?

I think you should wait until after you file your taxes in 2011 (Feb. 2011) to also file your K-1:

I-134 Info: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-134.pdf

K-1 Forms: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1forms

During your Adjustment of Status meeting, you will be asked to show your joint bank balance, how much $$ is in your account, and other stuff like health insurance, and if your new wife and you are on public insurance like Med-i-Cal, for example. Just be aware that these issues could creep up, and affect your case.

Good luck,

It's a common problem with self-employed people. You get some pretty nice deductions on schedule C, all thanks to the federal government trying to help small business owners, but it bites you in the backside for the affidavit of support because it makes your total income look a lot skimpier.

You need income and/or assets of 125% of the poverty guidelines for your household size:

http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-864p.pdf

Your household size includes you, your fiancee, and anyone else you support. If it looks like you're going to come up short on your 2010 tax return then you might consider either easing up on some of those schedule C deductions (I know, more taxes to pay), or getting a co-sponsor (if the consulate in your fiancee's country will accept them - some don't).

08/18/2010 - AOS Interview - APPROVED!

05/01/2013 - Removal of Conditions - APPROVED!
