Can i-864 be filled by someone other than the petitioner?

Hello everyone,

My friend's petition (through a spouse) has reached the NVC. I was wondering if the Affidavit of Support form (I-864) can be filled by someone else other than the petitioner (and not a relative)? In other words, can I file it for him even though I'm not a relative or the petitioner?

Thanks.

Yes - but the primary sponsor will still fill out the 864 (in addition to yours).

(as long as you meet the requirements - 18+, USC/LPR domiciled in the US, income sufficient)

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

So the main petitioner (my friend's spouse) still has to fill out the I-864, correct?

Thanks

18+, USC/LPR domiciled in the US, income sufficient - are all important.

Your friend's spouse will file I-864

You will file I-864 too.

But you (co-sponsor) will have to 'entirely' overcome the poverty line threshold for the combined household.
