Another twist to our K1. My fiance got approved and should be here in a couple of months however I just got a very bad news that my last date at my employer is December 31 of this year.

What is this all mean to us? Can someone please help us with next step if any?

How is this gonna affect us? Can unemployment help?

Will we have problems when she gets here?

How can I show that I can support her without a job if i dont find one before that?

I'm sorry to hear your bad news - that is distressing after the long wait to have your fiancee arrive.

Once you are married she will need to apply for a green card. The K-1 gives her permission to come to the US to get married but it doesn't give her permission to live in the US so that is why she needs to file to adjust her status from non-immigrant fiancee to permanent resident. Part of the application includes the I-864 Affidavit of Support. If you are not able to meet the income levels on your own, you are allowed to use a co-sponsor - someone who does meet the income levels for their household plus your 'wife'.

Hopefully by the time she arrives and you marry you will have found replacement employment and won't need a co-sponsor. Good luck to you.

Great response but another option is to let her come to the U.S. now, get married and file for aos, which cost $1,010.

Still haven't recieved visa yet: I was lucky enough to get my money back because the flight canceled.

9/23/2010 EAD recieved

10/1/2010 Greencard Approved

10/09/2010 Greencard Recieved, DONE with USCIS until August 2012
