Hi there fellow VJ'ers,

Just got here in US last Aug 28, 2010 and im from Manila Philippines. Im just wondering on how to get the EAD and SS number? Upon my entry to US, the consul officer didnt give me anything, he just stamped my passport and I just provide the VISA packet and told to get married before 90 days. I will be getting married this coming Oct 16, 2010. Could I process my EAD eventhough Im not yet married yet or is it required that I should do the EAD processing after our marriage? I wish to work here in US as soon as possible so I could also help my fiance in financial issues. All your ideas and adviced will be greatly appreciated. Thanks and Goodluck to all!!!

You are not eligible for EAD until you are married. If you file the EAD along with the Adjustment of Status then there is no additional fee for the EAD.

You Need to apply your Adjustment of Status for you to get EAD. As for SSN, some Social Security Offices accept applicants within 14days upon arrival to apply for SSN Number, some don't till you have your EAD and GC.Every states dirrenet policies you know. Just try your luck might they will allow you to apply for SSN Number.

After you get married, try gathering some of your documents to file for your AOS (131/1-765/1-485).

Goodluck!

My then fiancee (wife now) applied for a ssn 15 days after her entry here in the states. We didn't have any problems. It will have a stamp on the ssn card saying (something like) "valid for employment with DHS authorization only."

Now that we're married and our aos has been approved, we'll be going back to ssn office to change her last name as soon as we receive her gc from the mail.

Goodluck!

I have assisted others in getting their SSN. The reason K1 entrants are allowed to get an SSN is because some states required a SSN to get a marriage certificate.

My wife arrived on a K3 visa so we had to get the EAD first.
