Hi, I filed my application on September 3rd, received a NOA dated September 7th and my check has been cashed on September 10th, however when I go to the USCIS site to register for automatic updates the systems doesn't yet recognize my case number, yes I omitted the dashes but no luck, does anybody know how long it takes for the system to recognize a case number?

thanks

You need to use the receipt number on your biometrics.

thanks, you are absolutely right, I wonder why they don't say that in the form and save the recipient all the grief of trying and trying and trying a number that doesn't work

Actually they do say that. Check on the bottom of your NOA receipt. On the last paragraph says this:

Upon receipt of your ASC appoinment notice, you can find status of your case on-line www.uscis.gov. To view the status of your case, enter the applications number found at the top of the ASC appoinment notice. NOTE: The I-751 form type will be listed as "CR189" under application type in our case status on-line tool.

Good luck

You might not see it before the approval notice sent by mail. It's a poor run system.
