Hi Folks, I don't know if I can ever quit VJ. As hard as I try, new issues crop up, and would have to research and see if someone has gone through similar situation. lo and behold, there is nothing new under the sun here on VJ. VJers have been a great source of help to me in this whole journey with USCIS.

Finally, my passport books has landed (Applied on August 20, 2010 and received on September 13, 2010. Approximately 25 days). I am waiting patiently for my original naturalization certificate though. But that is for later discusssion. I will admonish all those still "travelling" with USCIS to seek for clues to their problems here, and they will surely go through this bumpy (sometimes) road-trip unscathed. Hey, Masterpiece, you are right. It is good to be patient. Does anyone knows if the passport books normally comes before the naturalization certificate? Just thinking aloud again! Long live VJers!

We paid the extra 60 or so bucks for expedient service, while much closer to Chicago, was processed in New Orleans not long after Katrina, but the passport did come in a heavy overnight envelop that I had to sign for. Three long days afterwards, the certificate came back in a brown first class envelop with no means of tracking that 400 buck piece of paper. But did come back dry is that is some kind of miracle. I did make a clear plastic envelop for the certificate using that cellophane type notebook separator and was glad it was still in there.

The return address was identical to the passport, have no idea why they couldn't slip the certificate in there with it and saved the money for that brown envelop and stamps.

By this time, I 'm guessing you already have the certificate in hand. Congratulations!!!

I actually liked the new US passport. I applied today and picked it up along with my Certification of Naturalization after a few hours of waiting. Traffic was terrible (portions toll) but I'm glad I didn't have to worry about losing my certificate in the mail...

Congrats Krakatoa. The journey is finally ended.

I did receive my naturalization certificate. I guess my journey with USCIS is officially ended. It is been helpful reading threads from you and the rest. These threads helped alot to avoid having to contract a legal brain through the journey. Say hi whenever you are free and I will not hesitate to respond. God bless!

Was a great feeling for my wife to get a US passport, until she tried to use it to enter her home country. With that country listed as her place of birth on the US passport, wouldn't recognize it and are forcing her to get a passport from that country.

Where I with the same kind of US passport with a place of birth in Illinois was very welcomed into her country.

Thought those days of huge inconvenience and expense in trying to maintain a foreign passport in this country were over. Guess what?

I went to the regional passport agency in Hawthorne St., SF with a confirmed itinerary/plane ticket (to get an appointment in a regional passport agency, you must be traveling within the next 14 days and show proof of your travel, my flight was scheduled on 9/23 and I booked an appointment for 9/22 through their automated phone system). I paid the expedited rate and applied also for the passport card. Good luck! I got the phone number and address from the department of state's website. http://travel.state.gov/passport/
