When you decide to go to certain countries,they require you to be insured,I think they call it-traveler's insurance...Anyway-I 've never needed it to go to USA while I was still on GC ,neither I know anyone that needed insurance(unless they were on non immigrant visas) So my hubby had to get traveler's insurance in order to get transit visa to get to the airport in a country he is flying from to NY,so he asked me if maybe they will ask him for same thing for USA.Other words,he wanted to know if someone may require to show traveler's insurance going to USA and I told him NOT,but since I am not 100% sure,I want to make sure that with his visa(cr1) he doesn't need such thing-just his ticket,visa and packet for POE...Anyone knows about it?

pretty sure you don't need anything to travel.

travel's insurance is just for people to be safe in case they do get into an accident they don't land in a hospital bed and a $50,000 bill.

That's what I thought too,but see some countries require you to take it even just to pass their country...

I do not think that the USA ask for travel insurance for people coming /transiting to /from the USA. But there are some country that did ask for it a few years back - I am not sure if that is still the case. Someone can correct me on that.

Personally, whenever I travel, I always get travel insurance especially if there are stopovers. I always travel on the same airline or alliances. I have had too many friends & co-workers who have gone who have had "mishaps" with delays, canceled flights, miss flights, lost luggage, etc, & didn't had any travel insurance to cover them & were getting the "run around" from that particular airline.

I pay the extra for travel insurance because I want to have that extra "piece of mind" when I travel - not fighting with airlines when something happens.

Good one thekfc! I buy tickets using my bank's credit card and I think I am automatically protected by upto $500K in travel insurance.
