My fiancee and I are just starting our paperwork for a K1 visa. We have also found out that she is pregnant. By the time she has her interview, she will be around 6 or 7 months pregnant.

Is there any time in the process that we need to bring this up?

Will we have trouble getting approval for the visa during the interview because she is pregnant?

There should be no problems getting a visa. She may have to mention it at the medical so she is not given the xray or the vaccinations not appropriate for a pregnant woman. You may also need to write a brief statement saying that you know that your fiance is having a baby and that it is yours for the interview. Check with the South America section of this site for more info on that.

It will also mean that your family size will be 3 rather than 2 in accordance with the poverty guidelines for your affidavit of support. In other words you'll have to make 125% of the poverty level for a family of 3 or get a co-sponsor. :)

Also, Congrats on the pregnancy! Thats very exciting!

I was 6 months pregnant at my K-1 interview and had no issues. What you need to do, is obtain a letter from her doctor confirming her pregnancy and due date on the Dr's office official letter head and signed by the physician. Bring this letter to the medical, as she can skip out of the chest x-ray no questions asked, regardless of what country the medical is conducted in, as the X-Ray can be harmful. She can get the xray done once in the States, after given birth, but before the GC interview.

Just make sure that you get the letter back. At the interview, include with all the documents the Dr. confirmation letter. Because at the time of the interview the baby will not be born, you just have to qualify for a household of 2. When she physically has given birth, by this time you should be awaiting your Conditional greencard interview, that is when you will have to qualify for a household of 3, but not till then.

There are lots of haters on here who automatically assume that if the woman being sponsored is pregnant is trying to fast track things or using the pregnancy to speed things up and they will say that you will have to prove the child is yours etc... Ignore them!!! THey are wrong! Being pregnant does not speed up the process, the only thing that they may do is be more open to changing interview dates if she is close to her delivery date and its unsafe to travel to the embassy. The pregnancy does count as evidence of a bonified relationship though, and at the greencard interview the child will be counted as prove of a valid relationship.

Congrats onthe up coming bundle of joy, and I hope this helped.
