Hello everyone, my question is are there any permanent residents out there that have had their parent/s visit them? and how did they do it? I will be ( or hope to be ) a USC next year but am hoping for my dad to visit me if its possible this year for 1 month or 2, how would we/he be able to come, i know i cannot petition for him but am looking for a way that he can visit, would appreciate a detailed answer/experience with this issue. Thanks in advance.

Your parent can go to the embassy and apply for a tourist visa. There isn't anything that you can do to help the process and your being a citizen doesn't make a difference.

My (Romanian) ex mother-in-law applied for a tourist visa and travelled to visit us twice while my former spouse was an LPR. At that time I think that we had to send an invitation letter. I don't think that is needed any more. Check with the embassy in Bucharest to be sure.

Ok that i understand so far, but your mother inlaw came to visit did she mention staying with you guys or something like that? As far as i know if he does apply for visitors doesnt he need to have enough funds in an account to prove that he can support himself while vising here? Thats the one part i am confused about, if he does apply will he mention me and my wife? staying with us? us having enough money to support a 3rd person ( which we do by alot )i know he needs to prove that he will return to Romania and that he has ties there which would make him come back.

In our case there was an invitation letter stating that she was coming to visit her daughter and stay with us. We may have had to do an I-134.

At the interview, when asked about the nature of his trip your dad would say: "to visit my daughter/son and her/his family."

*Moving from Bringing Family Members of Permanent Residents to America forum to Tourist Visa forum as question is about a visit, not immigration*
